Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a natural altered state of consciousness in which the attention
is captured either by an external object such as a swinging pendulum or
by some internal thought or image. Many people are already very familiar
with light to medium levels of the hypnotic state in everyday life in the
form of daydreams or when they are absorbed in an interesting book or
film.

In the final analysis, all hypnosis is self hypnosis. A small percentage of
the population is capable of a deep level of trance without assistance.
Others require the help of a Hypnotherapist who acts as a guide. This
process is facilitated by a compliant attitude on the part of the patient.
Contrary to popular belief, one cannot be coaxed into a hypnotic state
against one’s will nor made to give up personal secrets.

The benefit of hypnosis in therapy is that it allows access, in the form of
beneficial suggestions, to a deeper (unconscious) level of the mind. This
inner self is, on the one hand, often the cause of many problems, on the
other, the source of their solution.
